I recently took my wife on a boar hunt at Chappy’s Outfitters near Lake Okeechobee for her birthday.
Not only did she have a blast , but the guides put us on a nice Spanish Boar. . I found a lot of similarities between hunting and fishing Guides. Being a fishing guide myself I truly understand and value the benefit of hiring a professional guide.I have a couple of tips. There are ways to increase your your odds and it has little to do with your skills as a hunter or fisherman. First of all, after guiding for 25+ years I can tell after your first cast were I can or can’t go to make the day a success. Guides joke about the guys who have fished all over the world and caught everything under the sun, then hold the rod upside down, or reel backwards while having a nice fish on and saying the reel is broken cause he is holding the rod in one hand and the reel handle in the other. So all I am saying is let the guide do what he is payed to do and listen to him. He is the one who knows how to bring home the trophy boar or release the tarpon on your bucket list. At least on his turf. He knows the lay of the land. he knows the habits and patterns of migratory fish, same for animals on stalking his feeder and fields. So again listen to your guide he knows! we do this for a living. Our success depends on making you happy with your catch and having you back multiple times. We also depend on word of mouth and your recommendations.
